Plot summary[]

Connecting the engine[]

In 231 BBY,[3] Ty Yorrick and KL-03 ("KLO") land on a terrestrial planet to hunt the acklay. Before they can disembark, KLO convinces her to continue the story. Back in 382 BBY[4] the Nameless eggs were able to hatch. By that time, Pako and Wole were working on unlocking the final layer of safety protocols. When Shalish disparages his willingness to risk his life to save the Jedi, Pako counters that the Jedi happen to be like family to him and asks if she would do the same for people she cares about. Shalish responds that she only cares about herself. When Pako questions Wole if she shares Shalish's sentiments, Vole reluctantly voices agreement with his fellow disciple.

Just then, they hear the roar of the Nameless creature that has entered the rear section of the Path of the Closed Fist's ship. Wole panics and convinces a reluctant Wole to leave with her. Pako tries to convince Wole to stay but he chooses to leave with Shalish. Elsewhere, Jedi Master Xinith Tarl senses there are more Nameless creatures. She convinces Ambar and the wounded Geth to leave the cargo chamber as the Nameless creatures begin hatching.

Rampage of the Nameless[]

Meanwhile, Coron Solstus connects the cable to a conduit. Igniting his lightsaber, he resolves to return to the rear section of the ship to help Master Sula Badani and the others. While searching for the Nameless creature, Rok Buran finds a dying Wole, who had been mauled by the Nameless creature that entered the ship. He reveals that Shalish was killed by the creature. When Buran expresses empathy for Wole, Wole expresses surprise before breathing his last. While patrolling the corridors, Master Badani encounters the Nameless creature, which overwhelms her by devouring the Living Force inside her.

With the help of EX-5A (EX-5), Pako manages to disarm the last of the safety protocols. While he sets the engines to overload, he sends EX-5 to warn the others. Before the droid leaves, he promises that he will be behind him. Meanwhile, Badani attempts to hold back the Nameless creature with the Force but the creature instead devours the living Force inside her left arm, causing it to whither and shatter.

Having accomplished his mission, Pako races through the corridor and stumbles upon the Nameless creature attacking Badani. He shoots at the creature but his blaster bolts cannot pierce its tough hide. The creature hurls him against a wall, killing him. Badani tends to the fallen Pako and thanks him for his sacrifice. The creature retreats form the scene.

Later, Solstus encounters Tarl, Ambar and Geth and tells them that he has restored the ship's power. Tarl warns him that there are more Nameless creatures and that they must leave. They are joined by Master Buran, who says they should proceed with the evacuation now that they have restored the ship's power. When Solstus asks about Master Badani and the others, Buran and Geth say that Shalish and Wole were killed by the Nameless. Shortly later, they are joined by Master Badani, who is missing an arm. Solstus is relieved to see her and hugs her. As the klaxons begin ringing, Ambar says that Pako has succeeded in overloading the ship's engines. Badani tells the others that Pako died while trying to save her, devastating Ambar and Solstus.

Sula's last stand[]

Master Tarl tells the others that now is not the time to mourn and that their enemies are approaching. As a pack of Nameless creatures approach, Solstus asks how many are there. Badani says that she will hold the creatures back while they evacuate the wounded. Solstus says that Badani is wounded but she reassures him that she can still fight. She tasks him with evacuating the others and ensuring that Master Tarl survives to warn the Jedi Council about the creatures they encountered. She tasks Buran with leading the survivors and looking after her Padawan.

Solstus leads the way out of the doomed starship. Tarl encourages Solstus while Ambar and EX-5 make their way out. Geth asks Buran why he is helping him even though he is an enemy. He also asks why Badani is facing the Nameless creatures alone. Buran answers that the Jedi believe in doing what is right and that all life is precious. As the group flee the ship, Badani makes a final stand against the approaching Nameless creatures. Shortly later, the Path starship explodes, killing Badani and the Nameless.

Solstus is devastated by his master's death. Buran comforts him, reassuring him that they are going to survive because of Badani's sacrifice. When Solstus said that Badani promised she would be following them, he replies that she will always be with them through the Force.

Epilogue[]

When KL0 asks if this is the end of the story, Yorrick says that Buran took Solstus as his new Padawan. Solstus subsequently became a Jedi Master and took her Master as his Padawan. KL0 surmises that the story ends with Yorrick, because she left the Jedi Order and is not training a Padawan as her own. When Yorrick sighs, KL0 suggests that she could do with some help. Yorrick agrees.

When Yorrick asks about the Nameless creatures, Yorrick says she does not know what happened to them and says they lived on in stories, nursery rhymes and scary tales. She believes that the Path of the Open Hand was using the Nameless as weapons to hurt the Jedi but doesn't know if more exist. KLO then raises the topic of the acklay. Shortly later, they are joined by a visitor named Drewen who offers to help them hunt the acklay. Yorrick accepts his services and asks if he is interested in becoming her Padawan.
