"The Orphanage" is a short story that was published in Dark Legends. The story was authored by George Mann, illustrated by Grant Griffin, and published on July 28, 2020. The tale revolves around orphaned Force-sensitive younglings up against The Grand Inquisitor, a nefarious Jedi hunter intent on kidnapping the children.

Plot summary[]

Following the Clone Wars orphaned children are brought to the world of Gaaten to be adopted. However some children go missing in the middle of the night. The children said it was a tall thin man with sharp teeth and glowing eyes, but the adults did not believe them. Instead believing that the children just ran away. At some point a Force-sensitive child named Elish came to the orphanage from Malloran. While Elish was at the orphanage two children, Samil and Gee'far, were taken by the night time phantom.

Elish became increasing concerned that she was next until a women named Kira Vantala came to Gaaten, who promised to put a stop the phantom. Shortly after the phantom came in the night to steal Elish away. But as he took Elish out the orphanage's window Kira was ready and call after him. The Phantom seemed to recognized Kira and launched his attack. As the Kira and the Phantom fought Kira dropped her weapon and Elsih dived to recover it. After tossing it back, Kira swung and the Phantom hissed in pain before falling back. Believing they had defeated the phantom and saved the children of the orphanage; they went to examine the body. But they found no remains. And Elish was certain she heard manic laughter drifting away in the breeze...
