"Our plan is to punch our way through that crap before the crap punches its way through our hulls. Shea's right, the Veil is a liquid, but unlike anything you've ever seen. It's alive and it's angry."
"How can a liquid be angry?"
"Why don't you ask it when we make our way through, if you can be heard above all the screaming and the dying? […] Make no mistake, the minute our ships hit that stuff, that stuff will try to hit us."
Radicaz Dobbs and Marda Ro[1]

The Veil was the treacherous atmosphere of Planet X. It made landing on the planet remarkably difficult by acting as a sort of defense mechanism[1] and immune system for the world. Like the rest of the planet,[2] it had a degree of sentience and would actively attack ships with globules of matter[1] and lightning as per its duty as an immune system. It could be distracted with destroying ships and other foreign bodies, and thus allow others to pass through.[2] Alternatively, a Force-sensitive would act as a target for the Veil, which could hone in on such a person.[1]

Time and distance seemed to be different from regular reality within the Veil, where impossible to describe colors also existed. The Veil could also expand outward in an attempt to prevent people who got through it from leaving Planet X.[1] Stories of the Veil and how to travel through it were passed down through the Ro family.[2]
