The Weapon of a Jedi: A Luke Skywalker Adventure is a junior novel written by Jason Fry and published by Disney–Lucasfilm Press on September 4, 2015 as part of the Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens book series. The novel follows the adventures of Luke Skywalker between Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope and Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back.[4] An animated comic adaptation of the novel was created by Nestlé as part of a licensed Star Wars–themed promotional campaign.[6] In 2017, a four-part comic adaptation written by Alec Worley and drawn by Ruairí Coleman was published in the German Star Wars Magazin[7] and was later published in English by IDW Publishing in 2021 as Star Wars Adventures: The Weapon of a Jedi.[8]

In this story, set between Star Wars: A New Hope and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Luke finds himself drawn to a mysterious planet, where he must use the Force to save a young girl—and survive in a dangerous duel against a strange new villain.[9]

THE WEAPON OF A JEDI: A LUKE SKYWALKER ADVENTURE 
The REBEL ALLIANCE has destroyed the Empire's dreaded
DEATH STAR, but the galaxy remains convulsed by civil war,
and the Imperial starfleet is hunting the rebels throughout the
galaxy.

LUKE SKYWALKER, the pilot who destroyed the Death Star,
is now hailed as a hero. But Luke seeks only to support the
freedom fighters, serving the Rebellion behind the controls of
his X-wing fighter.

Even as he flies alongside the pilots of Red Squadron, Luke
feels stirings in the mystical energy field known as the Force.
And this farm boy turned fighter pilot begins to suspect that his
destiny lies along a different path...

Development[]

Author Jason Fry described getting the chance to write Luke Skywalker as "a huge thrill and an awesome responsibility," noting that he felt that "he's eluded some authors." He finished writing the book with a deeper appreciation of Skywalker than he had previously. There is also a new character in the book that he hoped fans will take a liking to.[10] Fry would later write the novelization of the 2017 film Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi.[11] Fry considers The Weapon of a Jedi and The Last Jedi novelization to be bookends of each other. Both novels frame the Force as if it is a character of its own, and the experiences characters have with the Force in both are directly linked in Fry's mind.[12]

Continuity[]

Cornelius Evazan was stated to be an alien. However, the 2016 reference book Star Wars Character Encyclopedia: Updated and Expanded later revealed that Evazan was a human.[13]
