The Weapon of a Jedi: A Luke Skywalker Adventure is a junior novel that was released as part of the Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens book series. The novel, written by Jason Fry, follows the adventures of Luke Skywalker between Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope and Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back.[6] It was published by Disney–Lucasfilm Press on September 4, 2015, and comprises 192 pages.[3] An animated comic adaptation of the novel was created by Nestlé as part of a licensed Star Wars–themed promotional campaign. The animation can be viewed on the Nestlé Comics website by typing a digital code featured on every box of Nestlé cereals.[7] In 2017, a four-part comic adaptation written by Alec Worley and drawn by Ruairí Coleman was published in the German Star Wars Magazin.[8]

Description[]

In this story, set between Star Wars: A New Hope and Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Luke finds himself drawn to a mysterious planet, where he must use the Force to save a young girl—and survive in a dangerous duel against a strange new villain.[9]

Plot summary[]

THE WEAPON OF A JEDI: A LUKE SKYWALKER ADVENTURE
The REBEL ALLIANCE has destroyed the Empire's dreaded
DEATH STAR, but the galaxy remains convulsed by civil war,
and the Imperial starfleet is hunting the rebels throughout the
galaxy.

LUKE SKYWALKER, the pilot who destroyed the Death Star,
is now hailed as a hero. But Luke seeks only to support the
freedom fighters, serving the Rebellion behind the controls of
his X-wing fighter.

Even as he flies alongside the pilots of Red Squadron, Luke
feels stirings in the mystical energy field known as the Force.
And this farm boy turned fighter pilot begins to suspect that his
destiny lies along a different path...

Development[]

Author Jason Fry described getting the chance to write Luke Skywalker as "a huge thrill and an awesome responsibility," noting that he felt that "he's eluded some authors." He finished writing the book with a deeper appreciation of Skywalker than he had previously. There is also a new character in the book that he hopes fans will take a liking to.[10]

Continuity[]

Cornelius Evazan was stated to be an alien. However, the 2016 reference book Star Wars Character Encyclopedia: Updated and Expanded then revealed that Evazan was a human.[11]

  5. In Heir to the Jedi, Luke Skywalker states that he has not heard from Obi-Wan Kenobi since the Battle of Yavin. As Skywalker hears from Kenobi in Star Wars 1, Heir to the Jedi must take place between Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope and Star Wars 1. According to its opening crawl, Star Wars 1 takes place after the Battle of Yavin, as depicted in A New Hope. Additionally, Darth Vader 1 is set after the Assault on Cymoon, as seen in Star Wars 1, and Darth Vader 4 is set after Darth Vader 1. This means Darth Vader 4 takes place after Star Wars 1. Since Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates the events of Darth Vader 4 and the end of A New Hope to 0 ABY, both Star Wars 1 and Heir to the Jedi must also take place in that year. As Helmet Collection logo small.png Star Wars Helmet Collection 72 (Highlights of the Saga: Luke's Journey in the Force) places The Weapon of a Jedi: A Luke Skywalker Adventure between the events of Heir to the Jedi and Star Wars 1, Weapon of a Jedi must take place in 0 ABY as well.
