"The Wrong Crowd" (German title "Schlechte Gesellschaft") is a comic strip written by Jeremy Barlow and drawn by Ingo Römling. The story was published in the 30th issue of the German Star Wars Rebels Magazine, which was released on April 12, 2017.

In a Twitter message, Barlow placed this comic shortly after "Homecoming" in the second season of Star Wars Rebels.[3]

Plot summary[]

Tonk reminisces on his father who had fixed droids for a living, something at which Tonk has never felt skilled. The Empire capturing Tonk's father from their workshop encourages him to rebel against the Imperials. He believes his only ability is breaking things, and he applies this anger towards the stormtroopers, alongside a gang of similar-minded rebels. On the planet Dinzo in the Mid Rim, Tonk and his rebels are engaged in a firefight with approaching stormtroopers and walkers. Sybl critiques his plan, but Tonk is insistent it will work.

Suddenly, the Phantom, piloted by Hera Syndulla, appears overhead and retaliates against the Imperial troops on behalf of the rebels on the ground. Syndulla runs out of the ship, accompanied by Sabine Wren, and instructs Tonk to help refugees board the Phantom, unaware he had lied to her in order to make sure she would come. He quickly leads the two Spectres toward the location of a cortosis mine secretly controlled by the Empire, which Syndulla surveys with a viewer. When Tonk announces his plan to blow up the mine, Syndulla retorts that the rebellion could use it instead, and Tonk explains that the Empire would simply send a fleet to retake it.

As they argue, two of Tonk's rebels, Osky and Ten-21, mishear the instructions on their comms and ignite the charges set on the mine location. Angry at the situation, Syndulla begins to leave, and Tonk tries to explain that he and his crew have skills that could be useful to the rebellion. As the two enter a heated argument, Wren steps in and reminds them that they're all stronger when they work together to find common ground. She explains that although Tonk and his crew are unorthodox in their methods, the rebel cause needs all the help it can get. Later on the Phantom, Syndulla reluctantly pilots Wren and Tonk's rebels. Tonk silently hopes to someday see his father again, and until then, he knows he's finally found his place.
