Wookiee thought wave

Mallatobuck sends a thought wave to Chewbacca.

A thought wave was a telepathic ability possessed by the Wookiees, a sentient species from the jungle planet of Kashyyyk. Thought waves allowed Wookiees to communicate mentally over great distances. Only adult Wookiees possessed the power, and thought waves could not be sent to younger Wookiees.[1]

Around 0 BBY,[2] the female Wookiee Mallatobuck sent her husband Chewbacca a thought wave while he was en route to Kashyyyk, warning him that their son Lumpawarrump was lost and in danger. When Chewbacca received the message, he jumped up from his copilot seat in the starship Millennium Falcon and let out a roar, which startled his captain and friend, Han Solo. When the Millennium Falcon reached Kashyyyk's orbit, Chewbacca piloted an explorer craft to the planet and rescued his son.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Thought waves first appeared in The Wookiee Storybook, a picture book written by Eleanor Ehrhardt, illustrated by Patricia Wynne, and published in 1979.[1]
