"Isela and I lived here—Toma and Ji and Norika next to us on this side."
―Akanah Norand Goss Pell, upon discovering the ruins of Ialtra[1]

Toma was an individual who lived in the Fallanassi religious order's village Ialtra on the planet Lucazec with the Fallanassi Ji and Norika. Toma also neighbored a girl named Akanah Norand Goss Pell.[1] By 16 ABY,[2] neighboring settlements Big Hill and Jisasu ransacked Ialtra, fearing the Fallanassi and their powers. The village was heavily damaged and abandoned after the raid, though Toma and the others escaped without being killed.[1]

Between 16 ABY and 17 ABY,[2] Akanah returned to her childhood home and found it in ruins. Greatly distraught by this revelation, Akanah was convinced that she would have felt her friends touch the White Current if they had died. She and her guest, the Jedi Luke Skywalker, determined that Toma and the others had escaped in time.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Toma was mentioned in the 1996 novel Before the Storm by Michael P. Kube-McDowell, the first novel in The Black Fleet Crisis trilogy.[1]

  1. 1.0 1.1 1.2 1.3 1.4 1.5 Before the Storm
  2. 2.0 2.1 Before the Storm establishes that Ialtra was ransacked prior to the novel's events. As The Essential Reader's Companion dates the The Black Fleet Crisis trilogy—which includes Before the Storm—as starting in 16 ABY and ending in 17 ABY, the settlement must have been ravaged by 16 ABY.
