A treadable was a ground vehicle used to traverse the deserts of the planet Pasaana.
Characteristics[]
Designed after abandoned crawlers by the native Aki-Aki, treadables consisted of a central cage surrounded by a pair of continuous treads.[2] Even though treaded track propulsion was extremely outdated, it was reliable in harsh weather conditions and unstable terrain. This reliability and cheapness made it relatively common on impoverished worlds. The track itself was made of composite manganese-plastoid allow for light durability. The Treadable had a repair hopper for any broken treads to be quickly swapped out. The unpredictability of the terrain made repair skills for crew a necessity. Other problems, like dust contamination in the wheels, required constant lubrication of axles and drive transmission. The exposed cabin and ventilation louvers kept the engine from overheating[1]
History[]
Kalo'ne drove a treadable for years.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
The treadable design originated in Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, where it would have appeared in the original extended "Forceback" scene when Rey touches the Skywalker lightsaber. In the scene, the occupant of the treadable would have spoken to a passerby about the lightsaber.[3] Concept art for Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker was designed by Brett Northcutt.[2]
