The Tree of Life was a tree that was located on the planet of Kashyyyk,[1] in the galaxy's Mid Rim.[2] It was sacred to the native Wookiee people, who traditionally held their longstanding Life Day celebration around the tree.[1] To represent the original Tree of Life, Wookiee families typically chose an ancient tree, which they adorned with shining Life Day Orbs. Those who were far from Kashyyyk could conduct a simple ritual around an image of a tree or a mere piece of wood.[3]

Behind the scenesEdit

The first canonical mention of the Tree of Life was in a Databank entry on the official Star Wars website.[1] However, it originated in The Star Wars Holiday Special,[4] a 1978 television variety show that was spun off of Star Wars, George Lucas's film of the previous year.[5]
