A type of tracked service vehicle was used by Jawas of the planet Tatooine. It featured a crane that could be used to lift astromech droids and load them onto the vehicle. At one point, a pair of Jawas utilized the vehicle while handling the astromech R3-T2 and confronting a Tusken Raider.

A Jawa also drove one of the vehicles at another time while visiting the Mos Eisley settlement. After that visit, the Jawa towed their service vehicle with a speeder bike that they traded from the smuggler Han Solo. Several of the Jawa service vehicles were eventually incorporated into a holographic simulation stored at the HoloSimulator of the Sacred Order of Ramulus structure known as the Observatory.

Characteristics[]

A tracked[1] service vehicle on[2] the Outer Rim Territories desert planet[3] Tatooine was used by members of the Jawa species,[1] who led a scavenger lifestyle.[4] It featured a brown, tan, and gray chassis mounted on black tracked treads. At its front, which featured the station of its sole driver, it had a small windshield, and two blue-charge–emitting weapons were also mounted at the sides of the vehicle's forward section.[1]

The central portion of the service vehicle featured a tan-colored articulated crane, which could be used to hoist astromech droids and place them onto the vehicle at a specially designated space in the back section. There, a pair of hand tools could also be fastened to the vehicle.[1]

History[]

At one point, a pair of Jawas operating a service vehicle that had the astromech droid[1] R3-T2[5] lifted with the help of its crane encountered a member of the Tusken Raider species while not far away from a Jawa sandcrawler. The Jawas at another point dealt with the droid catching fire while the service vehicle was parked next to a sandcrawler that was in turn situated in the vicinity of a moisture farm.[1]

Han Solo stops a Jawa driving a service vehicle.

Sometime by 0 BBY,[6] a Jawa driving one of the service vehicles visited the Mos Eisley settlement, where they acquired a gift box. After subsequently driving away into the desert, they were eventually stopped by the speeder bike–riding[7] smuggler[3] Han Solo, who was tasked by[7] the crime lord[3] Jabba Desilijic Tiure to retrieve the specific box. In order to get the box from the Jawa, Solo was ultimately forced to trade them the speeder bike for it. The Jawa then attached their service vehicle to the bike's rear section via the use of the former's crane and rode away with the treaded vehicle in tow.[7]

At some point by the time after the Battle of Endor[8] of 4 ABY,[9] a holographic simulation was stored at the HoloSimulator attached to the structure known as the Observatory, which had been constructed by the Sacred Order of Ramulus on a planet in order to archive galactic history and knowledge. In the simulation, several of the service vehicles were present at a Jawa camp near the Tatooine palace of Jabba.[8]

Behind the scenes[]

The Jawa service vehicle was introduced as an original vehicle in a 2018 LEGO toy set.[1] It subsequently made its first full appearance in hologram form in the 2021 mobile game LEGO Star Wars: Castaways.[8]
