A Venator-class Star Destroyer was used by the Galactic Empire during the early stage of its reign. It was present during the construction of the Death Star[2] in orbit of Geonosis. Newly constructed by Corellian Shipyards,[1] the Star Destroyer lacked the red markings present on others of its kind seen during the preceding Clone Wars, instead adopting a grey aesthetic. The Venator ferried Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine, his Sith apprentice Darth Vader, and Moff Wilhuff Tarkin to the Death Star[2] for an inspection[4] of the under construction battle station.[2] The destroyer was assigned to defend the incomplete battle station.[5]
Behind the scenes[]
The Venator-class Star Destroyer first appeared in the 2005 prequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.[2] The vessel is mistakenly identified as an Imperial-class Star Destroyer by Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel.[1]

- ↑ Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel establishes that the Venator-class Star Destroyer seen at the end of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith was "fresh" from Santhe Shipyards. As the Star Destroyer was therefore newly-produced during Revenge of the Sith, the events of which are dated to 19 BBY by Star Wars: Timelines, the warship must have been constructed in that year.
