A civilization existed in the galaxy prior to Doctor Chelli Lona Aphra being possessed by the Spark Eternal[1] between 3 ABY and 4 ABY.[2] At some point, the civilization placed the Pharorb in a lighthouse on the astronomical object Sva'leer, and to protect it, they added a puzzle mechanism onto the lighthouse's door.[1]
