A droidsmith was the builder of the droid D-O. At some point, the droidsmith was killed by the Sith assassin Ochi, who kept D-O.[2]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

This droidsmith was first mentioned, albeit indirectly, in the 2019 activity book Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Book and Magnetic Playset[3] written by Sally Little.[4] D-O's droidsmith was incorrectly identified as Babu Frik in the reference book Ultimate Star Wars, New Edition.[5]

The film Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker revealed that Frik and D-O were in fact unacquainted[6] and the reference book Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary by Pablo Hidalgo, established that the droidsmith was killed by Ochi prior to the events of the film, further cementing that they were a separate individual from Frik.[2]

Notes and references[edit | edit source]

  1. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary states that the droidsmith was killed by Ochi at some point before the Sith assassin's own death. The reference book also states that Ochi traveled to Pasaana, where he would later be killed, thirteen years before the Hosnian Cataclysm. Star Wars: Galactic Atlas places the Hosnian Cataclysm to 34 ABY, meaning that Ochi's death must have taken place some time around 21 ABY, and that the droidsmith must have been killed at some point by that year.
