- "This gives me an idea… Only you, little droid, can approach and overload these dangerous lasers… In the interim, I will download the map of the duct system…"
- ―The smuggler, to Todo 515
A smuggler captained a YT-2400 light freighter during the reign of the Galactic Empire. At one point, they and their astromech droid co-pilot, A4-J4, were captured and incarcerated aboard an Imperial-class Star Destroyer while transporting illegal cargo for Jabba the Hutt. The smuggler, assisted by the techno-service droid Todo 515 and the fellow smuggler Nuri Gleb, subsequently broke out of their detention cell. Consecutively wearing a stormtrooper armor suit and a TIE fighter pilot's flight suit as disguise, the smuggler then freed the similarly detained A4-J4 and retrieved their confiscated cargo. Ultimately, the smuggler and their newfound crew boarded their impounded light freighter and blasted their way out of the Imperial Star Destroyer, escaping into hyperspace.
Biography[]
Detained[]
- "Color me impressed: if you guess which hand brings me luck, I'll go all in with your plan."
- ―Nuri Gleb, to the smuggler

The smuggler was intercepted by an Imperial-class Star Destroyer.
During the reign of the Galactic Empire, a smuggler operated a YT-2400 light freighter together with their co-pilot, the astromech droid A4-J4. The duo worked in the Outer Rim Territories, where they regularly dealt with danger and surprises. On one occasion, while they were transporting expensive illegal cargo for[1] the crime lord[2] Jabba the Hutt, the pair's starship was captured by an Imperial-class Star Destroyer of the Empire. The freighter was impounded, its cargo confiscated, and the smuggler and A4-J4 were placed in separate cells in the Star Destroyer's detention center. A4-J4's partner specifically was detained in Cell Block A, in a cell they shared with the Besalisk smuggler Nuri Gleb. The cell also contained the disabled techno-service droid Todo 515.[1]

The detention cell the smuggler escaped from
Realizing that the Empire would soon discover Jabba's illegal goods among the confiscated cargo, the smuggler became determined to quickly break free from their incarceration and retrieve their astromech droid, cargo, and starship. Near their cell's door, they discovered a hidden wall panel that, when manipulated with appropriate tools, would allow for the deactivation of the force field securing the room's entrance. The smuggler then opened Todo 515's maintenance access plate and connected the wires and nodes thus revealed so as to reactivate the droid. Nuri Gleb's fellow detainee then attempted to persuade the Besalisk to join their escape attempt, although the alien was initially hesitant. After the gambling-loving Gleb proposed an impromptu guessing game that the smuggler won, however, the other smuggler enthusiastically offered his cellmate his services.[1]
Todo 515 then disabled their cell's force field by accessing the wall panel, after which Gleb knocked out their lone distracted stormtrooper guard. Picking up the trooper's blaster rifle and code cylinder, the smuggler heard A4-J4's familiar beeps and chirps coming from inside her cell; however, that cell's door could not be opened with the code cylinder, forcing them to search for another way to liberate the astromech. The smuggler then donned the stormtrooper's armor suit and used the code cylinder to open a nearby security door.[1]
Freeing A4-J4[]
- "Halt right there, trooper. You know only pilots are allowed inside."
- ―An Imperial deck officer, to the smuggler while the latter is disguised as a stormtrooper

The stormtrooper armor suit the smuggler wore as disguise
The escapee came face-to-face with a patrol of stormtroopers led by an Imperial officer. Saved by their disguise, however, the smuggler was merely instructed to return to their post by the departing patrol. In the otherwise-empty Star Destroyer corridor that was then open to the smuggler, they discovered sealed doors leading to the cargo bay holding their impounded cargo—doors that, once again, did not respond to the code cylinder. Through another security door, the smuggler then entered an access corridor leading to the hangar bay housing their ship. There, the smuggler's access was blocked by a deck officer who reminded the supposed stormtrooper that the hangar was off-limits to non-pilot personnel.[1]
At that point, the smuggler noticed a laser security grid protecting an air duct in the corridor. Instructing Todo 515 to overcharge the security grid, the smuggler downloaded a map of the Star Destroyer's duct system, after which they navigated the droid to the cell holding A4-J4. Upon the subsequent release of the astromech, the smuggler then had their co-pilot slice open the cargo bay doors. On the other side of the entrance, they encountered an RA-7 protocol droid, but the smuggler used their blaster rifle to scare the droid out of their way.[1]
The escape[]
- "A4-J4 [sic] READY TO JUMP INTO HYPERSPACE!"
- ―An instruction relayed from the smuggler to A4-J4
In the cargo bay, the former detainee then loaded their ship's confiscated cargo on a mag-lev transport sled. They also discovered a uniform locker, the lock combination for which was a set of symbols they had previously noticed at the deck officer's station. Putting on the Imperial TIE fighter pilot's flight suit contained within, the smuggler returned to the deck officer, who, deceived by the escapee's disguise again, cleared them to enter the hangar bay. There, the smuggler loaded their cargo aboard their impounded ship and, together with their new crew, boarded the craft.[1]

The smuggler's YT-2400 light freighter under pursuit by Imperial TIE fighters
The smuggler used the light freighter's laser turret to shoot at the hangar bay's control tower, which caused the force field sealing the bay against unauthorized starship departures to be deactivated. The freighter left the Star Destroyer's hangar, but was followed by a squadron of TIE fighters. The ship's captain relayed instructions for Todo 515 to activate the vessel's deflector shield and for Gleb to fire at their pursuers with the craft's laser turret. After that, the smuggler executed a perfect escape maneuver that brought them out of the Imperial squadron's firing range and instructed A4-J4 to prepare their ship for a jump into hyperspace, which allowed the craft to finally escape the Imperials. The light freighter subsequently traveled at high speed to[1] the planet[2] Tatooine in order to deliver its cargo to Jabba.[1]
Personality and traits[]
The smuggler was an individual of a humanoid species with a body shape that fit perfectly in an Imperial stormtrooper's armor suit. They had a good relationship with their astromech droid co-pilot, A4-J4, with them recognizing her beeps and whistles and her expressing happiness upon being reunited with her partner after a forced separation. In addition, the smuggler earned the grateful services of the techno-service droid Todo 515 after repairing him and, with their escape plan, was also able to impress the fellow smuggler Nuri Gleb enough for the latter to offer his services as well. Conversely, when armed, the smuggler was also able to project a presence intimidating enough to scare a protocol droid standing in their way.[1]
Skills and abilities[]
The smuggler was a skilled starship pilot who was able to outfly a squadron of Imperial TIE fighters. They were also able to repair a malfunctioning techno-service droid.[1]
Equipment[]
The smuggler captained a YT-2400 light freighter. During their escape from an Imperial-class Star Destroyer, they successively made use of a stormtrooper armor suit and a TIE fighter pilot's flight suit, as well as a stormtrooper's blaster rifle and an Imperial code cylinder. They also had a datapad on them during that event.[1]
Behind the scenes[]

The smuggler serves as the player character representation in a scenario of Unlock!: Star Wars Escape Game.
The smuggler is the in-game representation of the players of "An Unforeseen Delay," a scenario of Space Cowboys' 2020 canon card game Unlock!: Star Wars Escape Game. Before starting the scenario, the players are instructed to select three out of six possible "advantage" cards—basing their choice on the cards' titles but not their game-mechanical effects—which provide them with useful hints during gameplay. These cards respectively describe the smuggler as: a "security expert" very familiar with Imperial security procedures; an observant "scoundrel" who finds themselves in more trouble than many other pilots; an "expert smuggler" thoroughly acquainted with all aspects of their starship; a "droid specialist" who, for years, has worked on droids in their spare time and, as a result, is familiar with their possible mannerisms and quirks; a "veteran" combat pilot who has survived several encounters with Imperial TIE fighters; and as having downloaded a partial set of the Imperial Star Destroyer's detention center before their capture.[1]
