The Union Sentry Droid, abbreviated USD,[3] was a model of battle droid developed by the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars.[2] This six-legged droid[1] was primarily designed for use on worlds with rugged terrains where other droids would have difficulties in moving efficiently. The USD proved to be a worthy war machine but was only used for a short time since it was developed towards the end of the war.[2] Two decades later, during the Galactic Civil War, the assassin droid HK-47 reactivated the production of Union Sentry Droids in the Neimoidian droid factory on Mustafar as part of his plan to create a droid army.[1]
Variants of the Union Sentry Droid included GK-5 Sentries, the USD Class Pulverizer, the Doom Bringer and its hands of doom,[1] GK-14 Defenders, GK-18 Sentinels and the GK Oppressor.[4]
Behind the scenes[]
The Union Sentry Droid appeared in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[5] The Union Sentry Droid was added to the game with the release of the expansion pack Trials of Obi-Wan on November 1, 2005.[1]
