University of Alderaan

The University of Alderaan was a center of learning whose main campus was on the planet Alderaan. It was also known as Alderaan University, Aldera University,^[1] and the University of Aldera.^[2] Its approach to education was an emphasis on hands-on experience in a student's chosen field, which led to many satellite campuses off-world. The main campus was destroyed along with Alderaan in 0 BBY.

Founding[]

The University of Alderaan had a medical facility attached to the Aldera campus, off the central quadrangle. There was also a large fountain with an ice sculpture of a man and a woman holding hands and reaching upwards. The campus also had a tavern in a secluded courtyard.^[3]

Later History[]

In 22 BBY, the university's provost was Dalus Othona and its dean was Halcor Raystel; the latter was eventually removed after a three-month scandal when it became known that he was a ryll user and had offered class credits to two female students in exchange for sexual favors.^[4] Grabda Weng was, during that time, a professor of socio-politics at the University.^[5]

During the Clone Wars, the Students of Collus were active on-campus.^[6]

The former captain of the Tantive IV, Jeremoch Colton, spent his retirement teaching at the institution.^[7] Leia Organa and Winter attended classes in art and history there, beginning before Leia was seventeen.^[2]

Like the rest of Alderaan, its main building was destroyed by the Death Star in 0 BBY.^[8]
