"Who or what are the Ur'kossags?"
"A gang. Named themselves after a Huttese word for… you don't want to know."
―Carsen to her Master[src]

The Ur'kossags were a criminal gang on the moon Nar Shaddaa during the Cold War between the Galactic Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire. Named after a word from the Huttese language, the Ur'kossags robbed and killed alien refugees in the Network Access sector, but the Force-sensitive Human girl Kira Carsen stood up to the gang in defense of her friends[1] sometime between 36533645 BBY.[2] The group attempted to recruit Carsen, asking her to kill a rival gangster, but the teenage refugee refused and killed the criminals instead, ending the threat to her friends. However, Carsen's attack gave the refugees a fearsome reputation, and the group found it difficult to acquire supplies in the years afterwards. Carsen later learned of this when she and her Jedi Master visited the refugees to deliver relief supplies[1] in 3643 BBY,[2] but she did not regret her actions.[1]

Behind the scenesEdit

The Ur'Kossags were first mentioned on the Holonet section of the official site for the BioWare video game Star Wars: The Old Republic, in the entry for the Jedi Knight class' companion character Kira Carsen, though they were not named until the conversation "The Merciful One" in the game itself.

Using comments and information from The Old Republic—The Lost Suns 2, The Old Republic: Annihilation, and SWInsider "The Last Battle of Colonel Jace Malcom"—Star Wars Insider 137, it is possible to place the events of the Prologue and Act I for the Jedi Knight, Smuggler, and Trooper classes in Star Wars: The Old Republic in 3643 BBY, the general events of Act II in 3642 BBY, and the events of Act III for all classes in 3641 BBY. From this, dates of 3653 BBY and 3645 BBY can be determined for Carsen's time on the moon.
