You Edit

Can you tell me how you were made please?--Ultric Sandov--[Ultimate Spy]--UltricSandov--[Bothawui] [Send Transmision] 21:54, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

  • See the reply on my talk page. PS: It took a lot of trial and error before I got Whistler running. —Xwing328(Talk) 06:43, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

cleanup Edit

what kind of cleanup is substiduting eras with Eras? How essential is it to do it in every single page? It totally polluted all our watchlists. Just asking, with some stuffing up MoffRebus 23:49, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

  • We know it's not completely necessary, but we needed to go with some kind of consistency to help with automated edits. Sorry about any annoyance it has called, but fortunately you can hide bot edits on Recent Changes and your Watchlist. —Xwing328(Talk) 02:45, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Small errorEdit

  • Just a small error. Whistler incorrectly edited the First Jedi Purge article, removing the word "Unknown" from the section title "Unknown status". This was incorrect and i was forced to revert the edit. Just a small note, but woth mentioning i think. Jasca Ducato Sith Council Sith Campaign 10:32, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
    • As noted here - Forum:Questionable droid edits - we are aware of this problem and have already removed the "unknown" code from the scripts that several of us were running. Thanks for letting me know anyways. —Xwing328(Talk) 17:26, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

Tales from the Mos Eisley CantinaEdit

  • Your last fix has knocked the formatting of the stories/authors out of whack. ;) 82.39.72.11 12:17, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
    • Thanks. The problems should be fixed now on the "Tales..." pages. —Xwing328(Talk) 17:44, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Whitespace cleanupEdit

You may want to check your cleanup routine with regard to the House of Solo and similar articles showing the ASCII family tree. It appears to cull whitespace incorrectly causing the visual links to become misaligned. Issue appears to be similar to actions bot User:Q9-X2. Before: http://starwars.wikia.com/index.php?title=House_of_Solo&oldid=1030750, and After: http://starwars.wikia.com/index.php?title=House_of_Solo&oldid=1056224 75.132.206.15 10:23, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

  • Yeah, we know. And we've already fixed the "routine." In case you didn't notice, there have already been comments on this issue, on here and in the forums. Also, the only reason House of Solo was changed is because it didn't follow proper formatting, resulting in the error. —Xwing328(Talk) 16:07, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Non-Human -> nonhuman? Edit

Why was this change made? I thought we were still capitalizing Human. —Silly Dan (talk) 22:11, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

  • A few of us talked about this before, and we couldn't decide what to do. I mean, we don't want nonHuman, and nonhuman is (supposedly) the correct form compared to non-human/non-Human. Any thoughts on your part? —Xwing328(Talk) 04:04, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

QuotesEdit

I noticed that this bot changes typographic quotes to straight quotes, why is this being done? —MJBurrageTALK • 21:55, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

I assume you mean the slanted Microsoft quotes? These are just not preferred on Wookieepedia. That's all. —Xwing328(Talk) 15:03, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

The quotes we are both talking about are actually pretty much standard in all publishing, and existed long before before computers. Most people just do not know how to type them without MS Word. —MJBurrageTALK • 22:17, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Useless edits Edit

I'm not sure which one, but some bot is doing a lot of useless edits. It just happens that Whistler did the most recent one that I noticed: removing spaces. I actually prefer the spaces. I think it's easier to edit if there are little spaces to make it clear what to edit. This is filling up my watchlist, and even my mail because I've set my settings so that I get an email when something on my watchlist gets changed. I don't want to hide bots from it, because sometimes they are taging my images or something like that, something that I don't want to miss. --Steinninn 21:25, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

  • Hey steinninn, I see what you're saying about the edits. The run the bot did last night was primarily "useless" edits. Almost all of those you can ignore. The rest of the image edits should be "real" edits. Hopefully that'll help you tell them apart. —Xwing328(Talk) 21:29, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
    • Removing spaces that don't make any difference and changing lower case into uppercase is something that should be discouraged at all bots. I like spaces, and I like lower cases. I'd love to hear from more people on this. --Steinninn 21:41, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
      • We have brought this up before. One such discussion was here - Forum:Questionable droid edits. From an outsider standpoint, you're right. These edits don't make any difference. However, from a technical standpoint, they are incredibly helpful. If I didn't run the script that removed spaces, capitalized templates, etc., I'd be either programming extra exceptions for hours on end and still missing some, or I'd be forced to approve every single edit by hand. As it is, I now removed a majority of the edits needed by having the bot do them automatically, and only have to approve a handful by hand, to ensure that the bot doesn't mess anything up. In addition, some of the edits are done for the sake of consistency: having templates either all capitalized or all uncapitalized works much better (especially for new users unfamiliar with wiki formatting) than having some of each. Hopefully that made some sense. I appreciate your concern over this. —Xwing328(Talk) 22:26, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
        • I'm real happy to see that it's been brought up before. I've never seen the above mentioned edits approved on a Wikimedia projects, but that's not important right now. Keep up the good work. --Steinninn 22:51, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Language links Edit

I notice Whistler has been re-ordering language links, as shown in this edit. In that case, that is an incorrect edit. Finnish displays as "Suomi," so it goes between Russian and Swedish, last for that article. (Just as Spanish is under "E for Español" rather than "S for Spanish.") The only other tricky language link is Hungarian, which displays as Magyar. -LtNOWIS 07:15, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

  • Hehe, good point. Crap I wish I had realized that earlier. I was (obviously) putting them in order on the edited page, and not by what they actually display. Thanks LtNOWIS! —Xwing328(Talk) 16:07, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Star Wars: EmpireEdit

Hello, the creator of Whistler. I have a question about the logic behind one of the droid's editing missions:

Because it has created quite a mess amongs the comic titles. See for yourself:

Now all "Imperial" issues, story arcs and TPBs are titled differently than all other ongoing series. The colon is out of place here and must be removed. Objections? Mauser 15:36, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

  • This request is why the changes were made in the first place. I agree that they should all be the same, but which format is "correct?" —Xwing328(Talk) 02:56, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
    • I suspect that since the "Empire" format stands aside from all others, it is the incorrect one. I wonder why that request was made in the first place. Mauser 05:50, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

So, should I move them all back manually? Mauser 23:39, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

  • Yeah, I can probably fix the links later, but I can't remember right now how to move all the pages via bot, and I'm super busy. —Xwing328(Talk) 01:36, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
