Utapau Surrenders was a painting created after 104 ABY that depicted the capitulation of the Outer Rim Territories planet Utapau to General Grievous—Supreme Commander of the Droid Army of the Confederacy of Independent Systems—during the Clone Wars between the Confederacy and the Galactic Republic. The painting was set inside one of Utapau's sinkholes, and its foreground depicted a red-robed Pau'an individual kneeling before Grievous and presenting him with a staff, with three additional similarly dressed figures standing a short distance behind. Also occupying the foreground was a humanoid individual ensnared in a leash held by one of Grievous's four arms. In the background stood hundreds more robed figures below a group of vulture droids flying out from the lowest of three descending core ships.
Behind the scenes
Utapau Surrenders appeared in "Celestia Galactica Photografica," a collection of in-universe illustrations by Ryan Church included in Star Wars: Visionaries, a 2005 graphic novel edited by Jeremy Barlow. The image was also featured on the graphic novel's back cover.
Notes and references
- "Celestia Galactica Photografica" was included in Star Wars Legends Epic Collection: Legacy Vol. 4, which describes the stories it contains as taking place more than a century after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi. That film took place in 4 ABY according to The Essential Atlas, meaning that all paintings in "Celestia Galactica Photografica," including Utapau Surrenders, must have been created after 104 ABY.
