The Valau were a tribe of sentients native to Nagoa, a location in the remote corners of the galaxy during the Sith Wars between the Galactic Republic and various Sith factions. As they were far from the influence of the Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire, the Valau were able to develop their own views on the Force; the Valau considered Force-sensitives to be marked by their gods and chosen to serve as instruments of their gods' wills.
Valau Force-users underwent intense rituals to shed their identities so that they could act only as conduits for their gods. As they believed that their gods were unquestionable, they had no concept of the light or dark sides of the Force, and they viewed it as a tool.
Behind the scenes
The Valau were mentioned in the Codex entry "The Force: Beyond Light and Dark," which is acquired in Chapter XII of the Knights of the Fallen Empire Digital Expansion to the 2011 BioWare video game, Star Wars: The Old Republic. Chapter XII was added to the game in 2016 as part of Update 4.3.
