This article is about the astronomical object. You may be looking for the Human named Valera.

Valera was an astronomical object[3] located in the Valera system, a part of the Southern Core portion of[2] the Colonies.[1] At some point between 19 BBY and 3 ABY,[4] an uprising against the Galactic Empire took place on Valera. Although the insurrection was quelled by the Imperial Star Destroyer Stalker under the command of Captain Akal Zed, the Imperial forces lost several support vessels during the fighting due to flawed planning on Zed's part.[3]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Valera was first mentioned in the 1993 sourcebook Planets of the Galaxy, Volume Three, which was authored by John Terra for West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[3] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Valera system, and therefore the celestial body Valera, within grid square L-13.[2]

  4. Planets of the Galaxy, Volume Three, which is set before the events of Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, establishes that the uprising on Valera took place at some point following the establishment of the Galactic Empire. Since The New Essential Chronology places the latter in 19 BBY and the former in 3 ABY, the uprising must have occurred at some point between those two dates.
