"The Chief Security Officer of Stonewall Labs before the shutdown was a man named Vance Groten. I think he'll have an idea of where to find a beacon."
―Professor Zanier Hudmasse, to a spacer[1]

Vance Groten was a Human male who lived in Dee'ja Peak on the planet Naboo during the Galactic Civil War.

Biography[]

"Dee'ja Peak is probably the most beautiful mountain town on Naboo. I'm lucky to work here."
―Vance Groten, to a spacer[1]

By the time of the Battle of Yavin, Vance Groten was the Chief Security Officer at Stonewall Labs before the company closed.[2] His security officers included Kippy Martin and Walker Luskeske.[3] In 1 ABY,[4] he met a spacer who was trying to acquire an Old Republic droid module from Stonewall Labs. Vance Groten offered to help the spacer find a security beacon from Stonewall Labs. In exchange, Groten asked the spacer to eliminate groups of Maulers and Naboo pirates, as well as Blot's pack of aggressive feral shaupauts, that threatened Dee'ja Peak.[5] Groten later fixed a Stonewall Labs security beacon acquired by the spacer from Walker Luskeske.[3] As a favor, Vance Groten also asked the spacer to recover a ring that was a family heirloom lost during a sabacc game with Herman Pate. However, Pate had lost the ring to Janelle, a smuggler leader. The spacer was thus forced to fight the smugglers to recover the ring.[6] However, the security beacon was stolen in the meantime by Strehkforce mercenaries. The spacer then attacked their camp and killed their leaders Evan Strehk and Maris Fahrs to recover the security beacon.[7]

  4. The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
