Vegetable protein straws were a food. The straws were edible by humans and although they were bland in taste, they were relatively healthy and filling compared to many other foods. They could be sold in tubes, which cost less than six credits each.[1] Around 4 BBY,[2] during the Imperial Era, the human Jyn Erso purchased a dehydrated tube of the straws while on the Five Points space station. Soon after, her straws were stolen by a pickpocket. After the Galactic Empire banned her scandocs, preventing her from leaving the system, Erso rented a cheap room on the station's main floor and lived on a diet of vegetable protein straws and nutritive milk.[1]
