The Verpine fleet was a collection of unarmed starships used by the Verpine. Located in the Roche asteroid field, the fleet was pressed into service during the Galactic Empire's blockade of the Roche system. When the Empire invaded and took control of Command Base and Research Station Shantipole, they broadcast a general demand for the Verpine to submit or die. The Verpine, as a whole, decided to join the Alliance to Restore the Republic and began to gather their fleet to escape. However, with no combat capable craft, an Alliance team were sent to infiltrate Research Station Shantipole to liberate assault craft so that the fleet could break the blockade by taking out the EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate guarding corridor G147.[1]
When Research Station Shantipole was destroyed by Alliance operatives, Commander Gial Ackbar led the fleet in corridor G147 and was forced to engage in a one side battle with District Commander Bane Nothos' Nebulon-B escort frigate. The Verpine fleet incurred losses in the battle, but was able to break the blockade with the Alliance operatives arrived with combat-capable craft and disabled the Imperial ship blocking their escape.[1]
