"Cargo ferry Sela is carrying the TIE Defender prototypes and will rendezvous with escort carrier Hininbirg near Vinzen Neela 5."
―An Imperial briefing officer — (audio) Listen (file info)[3]

Vinzen Neela 5 was an astronomical object[3] located within the Vinzen Neela system of the Outer Rim Territories'[1] Parmic sector.[2] In 3 ABY,[4] following the Battle of Hoth, the cargo ferry group Sela was set to rendezvous with the Ton-Falk-class escort carrier Hininbirg near Vinzen Neela 5 to transfer the Galactic Empire's TIE/D Defender prototypes that the former was carrying. Rebel Alliance forces arrived in the area before the Imperial starships could in an attempt to ambush them and disrupt the transfer. In response, Imperial starfighters were dispatched to protect the transfer operation.[3]

This section of the article assumes 100% game completion. Any alternate stories may be noted in the "Behind the scenes" section. The events in this section may or may not have been confirmed as canon within the Star Wars Legends continuity.

In the ensuing battle, both Sela and the Hininbirg arrived in the area and the prototypes made their way to the latter, while all Rebel ships and mines were destroyed by Imperial starfighters. By the end of the battle, all Imperial ships had exited the area via hyperspace, with the Hininbirg taking the prototypes to[3] the planet[5] Coruscant.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

Vinzen Neela 5 first appeared in Totally Games' 1994 video game Star Wars: TIE Fighter. The astronomical object was shown on a map in the briefing for the sixth Tour of Duty's second mission, titled "Prevent Rebel Ambush."[3] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Vinzen Neela system, and therefore Vinzen Neela 5, in grid square P-18.[1]
