Vulta Daanat was a Dark Jedi, who trained as a Sith member of the Brotherhood of Darkness under the Dark Lord of the Sith Skere Kaan during the time of the New Sith Wars. Daanat however came to believe in a different philosophy of the Force than Kaan and the two fought, with the result being that Daanat left the Brotherhood and traveled the Galaxy in search of Force artifacts before settling on the planet Mustafar and establishing his own Force tradition known as the Blackguard.[1]

Biography[edit | edit source]

Vulta Daanat was a Force-sensitive male individual who lived during the New Sith Wars. Daanat joined the Brotherhood of Darkness, an organization of Sith which rose in opposition to the Jedi Order, and became an apprentice of its leader, Skere Kaan. However, while a member of the Brotherhood, Daanat began to develop the idea that the Force could be used to understand the universe, not just to gain personal power. Kaan disagreed and after a subsequent lightsaber duel between them, Daanat was badly injured and Kaan left him for dead.[1]

Daanat survived however and turned his back on the Sith, leaving the Brotherhood and beginning a search of the galaxy, following rumors and stories in an attempt to collect Force-related artifacts. During this time the entire Brotherhood of Darkness was destroyed at the Seventh Battle of Ruusan by a thought bomb they created to destroy the Army of Light.[2] The Dark Jedi eventually came to the planet Mustafar where he settled in an abandoned Jedi Enclave within the region known as the Smoking Forest. There, he took several apprentices and formed a Force organization that became known as the Blackguard, becoming its first leader, a role with the title Kursk.[1]

Legacy[edit | edit source]

A member of the Blackguard, which Daanat founded.

The Blackguard would go on to outlive Daanat and continue to practice his teachings believing that acquiring knowledge and understanding of the galaxy was more important than physical strength.[2] In 1 ABY a significant portion of the Blackguard were eliminated including the Kursk at the time, San'sii, when a Sullustan archaeologist named Mi Fon Lu hired a group of spacers to clear out the ruins which the Blackguard lived in so he could research there[3].

Personality and traits[edit | edit source]

Daanat believed that the Force could be used both for personal gain and to better understand the entire Galaxy. He defended this belief fiercely, fighting the Dark Lord of the Sith Skere Kaan to defend it and establishing an order based on this teaching.[1]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Vulta Daanat was first mentioned in the Wizards of the Coast Saga Edition Roleplaying game supplement book the Jedi Academy Training Manual, which was published in 2009. Daanat was mentioned in the entry for the Blackguard in the section of the book detailing enemies of the Jedi Order and was as established as the founder of the group, whom had first appeared as enemies in the MMORPG Star Wars Galaxies as part of the Trials of Obi-Wan expansion.
