―Personal journal of Voren Na'al, Director of New Republic Council Research[src]

The Wind Dancers were a sentient species native to the planet Galloa II,[1] located in the D'Astan sector of the Outer Rim Territories.[2] Members of the species were noted for their innate grace; accordingly, the Human historian Voren Na'al compared the Human smuggler Mara Jade to a Wind Dancer in his personal journal.[3] The Wind Dancer homeworld became integrated into the greater galaxy at some point between 3,956 and 1,000 BBY.[4] During the Clone Wars, it fell within territory controlled by the Confederacy of Independent Systems.[5] Years later from 4 to 6 ABY, after the fall of the Galactic Empire, the planet was within the empire of Zsinj, an Imperial warlord.[6]

Behind the scenes

The Last Command Sourcebook, a 1994 supplement for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game from West End Games, is the earliest source to mention the Wind Dancers; the book was written by Eric S. Trautmann to adapt the novel The Last Command to the roleplaying game. The species' name is used by the in-universe narrator of the work, the historian Voren Na'al, in his description of Mara Jade.[3] The line is reprinted in The Thrawn Trilogy Sourcebook, published in 1996, a collection of the three supplements that deal with the Thrawn Trilogy.[7] The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, a three-volume set published in 2008 by Del Rey, mentions the Wind Dancers in its entry for Galloa II, which establishes the full name of the species' homeworld for the first time.[1]
