Wing Tao Chao worked as a renowned Disney architect—pioneering hospitality and construction development as an executive—and played Governor Wing in the 2020 television series The Mandalorian's episode "Chapter 13: The Jedi."[2] Chao also voiced Wing in the 2024 Star Wars: Tales of the Empire animated television series episode "The Path of Anger."[3]

Biography[]

Wing Tao Chao was born in May 1944 in the wartime capital city Chungking of the Republic of China, Wing T. Chao moved to the United States. Despite considering to study medicine to become a doctor, he studied architecture at UC Berkeley and Harvard University instead. Chao joined the Walt Disney Company in 1972, helping with the master planning of the Lake Buena Vista Communities in Florida and later being responsible for planning Disney's nearby Epcot Center and surrounding transport infrastructure, which opened in 1982.[1] Chao was eventually promoted executive vice president of Walt Disney Imagineering and vice chairman of development in the Asia Pacific for Disney Parks and Resorts, overseeing the development of over a hundred projects, including Tokyo Disneyland, and hotels, corporate facilities, entertainment complexes, cruise ships, and resort renovations. Chao also played a key role in Disney's negotiations with the French and Hong Kong governments to build Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland, respectively opened in 1992 and 2005. Chao retired from Disney and joined Las Vegas Sands casino and resort company in 2010 and was named a Disney Legend in 2019.[4]
