"Who is the Witchblood clan?"
"You've never heard of them? They live on Dathomir. Been there for centuries. They have their own ideas about how things should work. AND they're Force sensitive."
―A pilot and Beissa[1]

The Witchblood Clan, also spelled Witch Blood Clan, was a clan of Witches from the planet Dathomir.

Description[]

"These witches are obsessed with respect. They want everybody who comes to Dathomir to respect them. Whatever! That is their weakness, as far as I'm concerned. I want you to find the clan's burial ground. It's an asteroid base somewhere nearby."
―Beissa, to a pilot[1]

Contrary to the majority of the Witches of Dathomir,[5] the Witchblood Clan members manged to avoid being trapped on the surface of Dathomir when the Galactic Empire established the blockade of Dathomir.[6] While most of the clan lived on Dathomir,[1] others had acquired starships and settled other areas of the Dathomir system.[6] These Witchblood Clan pilots eventually became mercenaries,[2] flying G1-M4-C Dunelizard fighters and M12-L Kimogila heavy fighters.[7]

In Dathomir space, the Witchblood Clan inhabited a region known as the Witch Blood Territory.[3] There, they established their sacred burial ground on an asteroid base.[1] The clan was also present in other parts of the system such as the Dark Force Nebula, the Empire Blockade quadrant and near crystal asteroids.[4]

History[]

"For now, you need to get the Witchblood clan under control."
―Beissa, to a pilot[1]

During the Galactic Civil War, the Witchblood Clan was considered the greatest threat in the Dathomir system.[2] The Witchblood fighters prowled the system, attacking both Rebel and Imperial starships indiscriminately,[2] as well as civilian vessels.[4]

After the Battle of Yavin, the hostility of the Witchblood Clan prevented Jabba the Hutt to expand his criminal organization in the Dathomir system.[1] In 1 ABY,[8] Beissa, the lieutenant of Jabba leading all the Hutt's space operations, designed a show of force to subdue the witches. Beissa ordered Talon Karrde's Smugglers' Alliance pilots to attack the Witchblood sacred burial ground in the Dathomir system.[1] Using the distraction, the Hutt forces attacked the main Witchblood Clan stronghold in the system. The operation was a success for Beissa as the stronghold was destroyed.[7] After this humiliation, the Witchblood Clan stopped interfering with Jabba's business.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Witchblood Clan appeared in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[6] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[9] The Witchblood Clan was added to the game with the release of the expansion pack Jump to Lightspeed on October 27, 2004.[6]

  8. The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
