Wizards of the Coast (or WotC) was the license-holder and publisher of the Star Wars Roleplaying Game, the Star Wars Trading Card Game, and Star Wars Miniatures until May 2010. The first Star Wars Roleplaying Game product was released in 2000 and the Revised Core Rulebook, containing a new version of the rules was released in 2002. The Star Wars Miniatures game started in 2004. A new edition of the Star Wars Roleplaying Game rules, Saga Edition, was released in June of 2007. Wizards of the Coast is based in Renton, Washington.
Web content included the Message to Spacers Series, the Strategy Showcase Series, the Dawn of Defiance adventures, Jedi Counseling, and a number of other web supplements.
On January 28, 2010 it was announced by Greg Yahn, the Director of Marketing for WOTC, on Wizards of the Coast's official forum that Wizards' would not seek to renew the Star Wars license with Lucasfilm, and it would lapse in May of that year. Citing "economic downturn", the license to produce all of the company's Star Wars brand lines would be discontinued.[2][3]
