'''Administrators''' are experienced and trusted [[Wookieepedia]]ns who have been elected by the community to carry out a wide range of tasks, both technical and political. To this end, administrators have "[[Special:ListGroupRights|sysop rights]]," a set of tools that allows them to perform operations that ordinary Wookieepedians cannot, including the deletion of pages and blocking troublemakers. Administrators are often seen as community leaders, with users turning to them for advice and information, but they are not imbued with any special authority and are equal to everybody else in terms of editorial responsibility.
'''Administrators''' are [[Wookieepedia]]ns who have "''sysop rights''".

Current [[Wookieepedia]] policy is to appoint new admins when it is felt that the current number of admins is insufficient. Administrators are chosen from Wookieepedia contributors who are active and who have been around for a while and are generally known and trusted members of the community.

  +
[[Wookieepedia:Bureaucrats|Bureaucrats]] are administrators with additional privileges, including the management of user rights. Like administrators, they are elected by the community.

'''Ayrehead''' is an English administrator who was introduced to ''Star Wars'' through seeing ''The Phantom Menace'' in cinemas as a child and has immersed himself in everything the franchise has had to offer since. He has been around on Wookieepedia since 2010, and so is well versed in Legends, but focuses on canon these days, spending most of his time nominating minor background characters from the films.

'''Cavalier One''' is a British administrator who began editing Wookieepedia in 2007. A fan since seeing the original films as a kid, it was the wider Expanded Universe, starting with ''The Thrawn Trilogy'', that cemented his love of ''Star Wars''.

'''Cav''' currently focuses on working on subjects relating to the first ''Star Wars'' roleplaying game by West End Games. The game might be over 30 years old, but Cav is still constantly finding new articles to create.
Administrators are not imbued with any special ''authority'', and are equal to everybody else in terms of editorial responsibility. Some Wookieepedians consider the terms "Sysop" and "Administrator" to be misnomers, as they just indicate Wookieepedia users who have had performance- and security-based restrictions on several features lifted because they seemed like trustworthy folks and asked nicely. However, it should be noted that administrators do not have any special power over other users other than applying decisions made by all users.

The community ''does'' look to administrators to perform essential housekeeping chores that require the extra access administrators are entrusted with. Among them are watching the [[Wookieepedia:Trash compactor|Trash compactor debates]] and carrying out the consensus of the community on keeping or deleting these articles, keeping an eye on new and changed articles to swiftly delete ''obvious'' vandalism, and meeting user requests for help that require administrative access. Since administrators are expected to be experienced members of the community, users seeking help will often turn to an administrator for advice and information.

'''DarthRuiz30''' is a Wookieepedia administrator who joined in 2014. Ruiz, who has been a ''Star Wars'' fan since he can remember, grew up with Dave Filoni's ''Star Wars: The Clone Wars'', which made him more interested in the franchise. On Wookieepedia, he mainly supervises the Recent changes on the lookout for vandalism.

  +
Ruiz is a 22-year-old Mexican who is in his fourth year studying mechatronic engineering. Besides ''Star Wars'', Ruiz enjoys playing video games and watching TV shows and movies.

'''Green Tentacle''' is a British administrator who started editing Wookieepedia in 2006. He became a ''Star Wars'' fan after first watching the original trilogy in the early 90s and was hooked after discovering the Expanded Universe through the ''Thrawn Trilogy'' and the ''X-Wing'' games soon after. Much of his work on Wookieepedia has been focused on EU subjects, particularly anything to do with old LucasArts games.

'''Grunny''', an Aussie, first joined Wookieepedia back in 2005, but really dove into regular editing in 2008. He has been an obsessive fan of ''Star Wars'' since getting the original trilogy VHS boxset as a child. Grunny enjoys both Legends and the new canon, but the strength of nostalgia always brings him back to Legends material, particularly the ''X-Wing'' novels, WEG RPG books, and the many comics series. He has a particular interest in editing articles about ''Star Wars'' technology, starships, and small characters from the comics and RPGs.

'''Master Fredcerique''', also referred to as '''Fred''' for short, is a Texifornian administrator who has been editing since 2008. His only major claim to fame is being tangentially part of ''Star Wars'' canon as a Batuuan who works in ''Star Wars'': Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland. Fred is unapologetically Texan, though he lives in California, which is merely one of his many contradictory traits.

  +
On the wiki, Fred likes to contribute to articles related to his homeworld of Batuu, as well as ones related to the 2003 ''Star Wars: Clone Wars'' series. His religious beliefs include the doctrine that the Nelvaan Vader vision is superior to the Mortis one.
===Deletion and undeletion===

}}
*Delete pages and their history. For information and guidelines, see [[Wookieepedia:Deletion policy]]. To suggest a page to delete ('''after''' reading the policy and guidelines pages!), see [[Wookieepedia:Trash compactor]]. Sometimes deletion is a technical matter, in which a redirection page has to be removed to make way for renaming an article, or a page whose history has been broken up has to be deleted and the pieces recombined. Other times it's a matter of cleaning up simple junk edits on pages with no actual content, or removing material that has been pasted in from another site and infringes [[Wookieepedia:Copyrights|copyright]].

*View and restore deleted pages and their history.

*Permanently delete images. This is a non-reversible change: once deleted, always deleted. For information and guidelines, see [[Wookieepedia:Images]]. To suggest an image to delete (after reading the policy), see [[Wookieepedia:Images and media for deletion]]. To challenge a decision to delete an image, make sure that you still have a copy of the image (else there is no way to restore it), then leave a post at [[Forum:Administrators' noticeboard]]. Note that there is no particular reason that image deletion should not be reversible; this is simply the way the software works at present.

*[[Help:Reverting|Revert]] pages quickly. Any user (logged-in or not) can revert a page to an earlier version. Administrators have a faster, automated reversion tool to help them revert vandalism by anonymous editors. When looking at a user's contributions, a link that looks like: [<span style="color:#002bb8; text-decoration:underline">rollback</span>] &ndash; appears next to edits that are at the top of the edit history. Clicking on the link reverts to the last edit not authored by that user, with [[Wikipedia:Help:Edit summary|edit summary]] ''(Reverted edits by X (Talk); changed back to last version by Y)'' and marks it as a minor change. In a fairly recent change, admins can also rapidly revert changes when viewing a diff.

'''Supreme Emperor''', or '''SE''', is a Canadian administrator who has been active since 2011. He first became obsessed with ''Star Wars'' after picking up used copies of the ''Thrawn Trilogy'' around 2005, which led to him obsessively collecting any ''Star Wars'' material he could get his hands on. SE always keeps an absurdly long list of project ideas by his computer.

  +
Outside Wookieepedia, SE works in retail management, and enjoys reading, gaming, and working away at his neverending list of home renovation projects.
===Hiding vandalism from recent changes===

  +
}}
*Sysops can hide vandalism from [[Special:RecentChanges|recent changes]]. To do this, add <tt>&bot=1</tt> to the end of the URL used to access a user's contributions. For example, <nowiki>http://en.Wookieepedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Special:Contributions&target=Michael&bot=1</nowiki>. When the rollback links on the contributions list are clicked, the revert and the original edit that you are reverting will both be hidden from the default recent changes display (by using the marker originally added to keep massive bot edits from flooding recent changes, hence the "bot"). This means that they will be hidden from recent changes unless you click the "bots" link to set <tt>hidebots=0</tt>. The edits are not hidden from contributions lists, page histories or watchlists. The edits remain in the database and are not removed, but they no longer flood recent changes. The aim of this feature is to reduce the annoyance factor of a flood vandal with relatively little effort. This should '''not''' be used for reverting a change you just don't like, but is meant only for simple vandalism, particularly massive flood vandalism.

|content='''Zed''' technically joined Wookieepedia in 2016, though it was not until 2018 that he became a frequent contributor, a decision he wishes he had made earlier. Having only watched the movies and read the occasional Expanded Universe novel beforehand, Zed first got into editing through the comics of the new canon continuity.

  +
On Wookieepedia, Zed often directs his focus toward astrographical articles and droid characters. He is admittedly a fan of media outside of ''Star Wars'' and likes to study history.
Two weeks is provided as a minimum time frame for thread length, though a thread should only be closed if it is clear that a consensus has been reached, or if no consensus has been reached and the thread has not been edited by a vote-eligible Wookieepedian in five days after at least two weeks of being active. Also, for threads closed by section (some of the MOS ones, for example), each section would have to be dormant for five days after a minimum of two weeks in order to be closed, not necessarily the entire forum. If that makes sense. These length guidelines do not apply to CSD threads. This lack of activity and consensus is an indication that a community agreement is not forthcoming. Should a thread be closed, it is the responsibility of the administration to properly address the result of the thread and apply it to the site and its policies as need be.

  +
}}

  +
</div>
For consensus to be achieved, a minimum of ten Wookieepedians must contribute a vote or statement. Consensus track threads with 10-16 voters will need a 3 to 1 ratio of votes for passage; consensus track threads with 17 to 24 voters will need a 5 to 2 ratio of votes for passage; consensus track threads with more than 25 votes can be passed by a 2:1 ratio of votes/opinions posted on the thread.

  +
==Sysop tools==
Additionally, it is regarded as bad form and against proper practice to close a consensus track thread in which an individual administrator has been heavily involved, though all consensus track closings fall under administrative discretion.

Experienced and trusted Wookieepedians may be nominated and elected by the community to become administrators. To be eligible for becoming an administrator, you must meet the requirements listed on [[Wookieepedia:Requests for user rights]], including a period of consistent, quality editing to the site:
It's recommended that you write for Wookieepedia for at least six months before requesting administrator status, since other users will have to recognize you before they can agree on your promotion. As part of the rulings decided at [[Forum:CT Archive/Admin Age]], [[Wookieepedia:Mofferences/January 25, 2009]], and [[Forum:CT Archive/Admin age exception]], all potential candidates are required to be either of adult age (18+) or have at least one and a half years' experience of consistent, quality editing to the site. Underaged candidates will be removed if they try to apply for sysop access.

  +
*'''Adult candidates (18+)''': at least six months of active contribution
  +
*'''Underaged candidates (13&ndash;17)''': at least eighteen months of active contribution

A request for adminship ("RFA") lasts for two weeks, after which a bureaucrat will grant you sysop privileges if the request is successful. New administrators are asked to exercise care in using sysop tools, especially the ability to delete pages and their history, to delete images, and the ability to block IP addresses. You can learn about your newfound powers at the [[Wookieepedia:Administrators' how-to guide|Administrators' how-to-guide]]. Administrative actions fall under the [[Wookieepedia:Administrative autonomy|Administrative autonomy]] policy, meaning that no administrator may overturn another administrator's decision without agreement from a quorum of administrators.
In addition to administrators, there are other types of identified users, listed here in roughly ascending order of power. (Administrators, clearly, go after users with rollback.)

===Signed-in users===

Users with ordinary access, including visitors who haven't "signed in," can still do most things, including the most important: editing articles and helping with [[Wookieepedia:Things to do|Wookieepedia maintenance tasks]].

But only signed-up users can [[Wookieepedia:Images|upload files]] or [[Help:Moving pages|rename pages]]; see [[Special:UserLogin]] to sign up for yourself.

===Rollback===

Users with the [[Wookieepedia:Rollback|rollback]] have the ability to use and have a rollback button without making them administrators. The rollback button is a faster, automated reversion tool to help them revert vandalism.

===Bureaucrats===

Users with "[[Wookieepedia:Bureaucrats|bureaucrat]]" status can turn other users into sysops. Bureaucrats are created by other bureaucrats on projects where these exist, or by Wikia staff on those who don't yet have one. Sysoppings are recorded in [[Special:Log/rights]].

===Staff===

Some Wikia staff members have full access to all wikis. They will be shown in [[Special:ListUsers/staff]] on any wiki. Please see [[Wikia:Contact us|contact us]] for details on how to contact Wikia staff.

====Technical Team====

The Wikia technical team can make direct changes to the Wikia software and database. These people, by and large, do not carry out administrative functions. The best way to report problems or bugs to them is via [[Special:Contact]].

If you think an administrator has acted improperly against you or another editor, you should express your concerns directly to the administrator responsible. Try to come to a resolution in an orderly and civil manner. However, if the matter is not resolved between the two parties, please post on [[Forum:Administrators' noticeboard]].

Administrators can be removed if they continually misuse their powers. If you feel that an administrator is no longer fit to hold that position, you may post on [[Wookieepedia:Requests for removal of user rights]]. Before posting your request, please be sure to check that your request fulfills the requirements stated on that page. If you are unable to do so (because of a block), you can attempt to e-mail an administrator listed on this page, or file your complaint with an administrator in the [http://irc.wikia.com/starwars/ IRC channel].

"The hallmark of a well-managed organization is not the absence of problems, but whether or not problems are effectively resolved."

Administrators are experienced and trusted Wookieepedians who have been elected by the community to carry out a wide range of tasks, both technical and political. To this end, administrators have "sysop rights," a set of tools that allows them to perform operations that ordinary Wookieepedians cannot, including the deletion of pages and blocking troublemakers. Administrators are often seen as community leaders, with users turning to them for advice and information, but they are not imbued with any special authority and are equal to everybody else in terms of editorial responsibility.

Bureaucrats are administrators with additional privileges, including the management of user rights. Like administrators, they are elected by the community.

Meet the team

Sysop tools

Administrators, by virtue of their sysop privileges, have access to a range of tools that normal users do not. Below are listed some, but not all, of the additional abilities that administrators have access to. For the full list, see Special:ListGroupRights.

Blocking

  • Block and unblock IP addresses, IP ranges, and user accounts for a specific time, or indefinitely, in accordance with the Blocking policy.

Interface management

Administrators can manage the appearance and functionality of Wookieepedia to the extent allowed by Fandom's Terms of Use.

  • Change the text of software messages seen on various pages, including the page that blocked users see when attempting to edit.
  • Change the style and functionality of the interface using CSS and Javascript.

Moving pages

  • Move pages without creating a redirect.
  • Automatically move all associated subpages when moving a page.
  • Move files.

Page deletion

Page protection

Rollback

Spam filter

Moderation of chat platforms

Administrators automatically receive additional privileges on Wookieepedia's official chat platforms.

  • Server moderator status ("administrators" role) on Discord.
  • Channel operator privileges on IRC.

Responsibilities

Administrators are expected to participate in carrying out tasks that require sysop rights, including but not limited to:

Becoming an administrator

Experienced and trusted Wookieepedians may be nominated and elected by the community to become administrators. To be eligible for becoming an administrator, you must meet the requirements listed on Wookieepedia:Requests for user rights, including a period of consistent, quality editing to the site:

  • Adult candidates (18+): at least six months of active contribution
  • Underaged candidates (13–17): at least eighteen months of active contribution
See Forum:CT:Admin Age, Wookieepedia:Mofferences/January 25, 2009, and Forum:CT:Admin age exception

A request for adminship ("RFA") lasts for two weeks, after which a bureaucrat will grant you sysop privileges if the request is successful. New administrators are asked to exercise care in using sysop tools, especially the ability to delete pages and their history, to delete images, and the ability to block IP addresses. You can learn about your newfound powers at the Administrators' how-to-guide. You should also take a look at the pages linked from the Administrators' reading list before using any of your sysop abilities. Your fellow administrators are more than happy to help you, as well.

Extended leaves of absence

In the event that an administrator enters into a protracted absence from the wiki, some form of explanation, be it even a simple "I'm taking a break" or {{Vacation}} template, is desired. In the absence of any explanation, if an administrator does not edit or use admin tools for four months or more, the following steps are to be taken outside of the RFRA process:

Length of absence 4 months' absence 5 months' absence 6 months' absence
Action taken attempts to communicate will be made warning that removal will occur at 6 months Bureaucrat will remove sysops

Activity requirements

In order to maintain their sysop rights, administrators are required to meet a regular level of productivity:

  • Administrators and bureaucrats must make at least 250 mainspace edits in any six-month span, excepting prior explanation of inactivity.
  • Bureaucrats must make at least 500 total edits combined in the mainspace, Wookieepedia:, File:, MediaWiki:, Template:, and Category: namespaces in any six-month span, excepting prior explanation of inactivity.
  • Additionally, administrators must use their administrative tools at least once every six months.

Administrators who fail to meet any of these requirements will be eligible for immediate removal by a bureaucrat. Those who provide an explanation of inactivity should clearly state an expected date for return to activity. Failing to return to activity by the specified date without further explanation will leave administrators subject to the "Extended leaves of absence" removal process (see above).

Administrator abuse

Administrative actions fall under the Administrative autonomy policy, meaning that no administrator may overturn another administrator's decision without agreement from a quorum of administrators.

If you think an administrator has acted improperly against you or another editor, you should express your concerns directly to the administrator responsible. Try to come to a resolution in an orderly and civil manner. However, if the matter is not resolved between the two parties, please post on Forum:Administrators' noticeboard.

In extreme circumstances, administrators who have demonstrated a deliberate abuse of their powers over a prolonged period of time can be removed from their position via Wookieepedia:Requests for removal of user rights.
