Re-using Wookieepedia content
Original text content on the wiki is released under the CC BY-SA license—the general public is free to share and adapt the material so long as appropriate credit is given and the re-used material is also released under the same license. You should attribute Wookieepedia, or list relevant Wookieepedian authors according to page history logs; license your work under the same license or a later version; and indicate if the content has been modified. In accordance with Fandom's Licensing Terms, any person editing or otherwise contributing to the wiki agrees to license any text they change or contribute under Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike License 3.0 (Unported) (CC BY-SA). Initially licensed under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL), Wookieepedia was republished under the CC BY-SA license on June 19, 2009, per GFDL Version 1.3's relicensing rules.
This website includes copyrighted images, audio files, and video files for informative and illustrative purposes in accordance with fair use under copyright law of the United States and subject to Wookieepedia's file policy—among other restrictions, each file should have its own page that supplies at minimum the relevant source, authors/copyright holders, and licensing information using appropriate copyright tags. Wookieepedia is in no way affiliated with or endorsed by relevant copyright holders such as Lucasfilm and The Walt Disney Company. The wiki also contains original content created and owned by Wookieepedia's host, Fandom, or one of its licensors.
Discussions forum
Regarding the Wookieepedia Discussions forum, user content does not fall under CC BY-SA. Per the Terms of Use, users grant Fandom "a royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, unrestricted, worldwide license to reproduce, prepare derivative works, distribute copies, perform, or publicly display such submitted content (including comments and quizzes) in any medium and for any purpose, including commercial purposes, and to authorize others to do so (this license right includes the name, identity, likeness and voice you submit with such content). You agree that you have the right to submit any content (including comments or quizzes) you post, and that such content (including comments or quizzes) does not violate the copyright, trademark, trade secret or any other personal or proprietary right of any other party."
Copyright policy for Wookieepedia contributors
General expectations
Wookieepedia contributors are expected to submit their own work. The wiki's software logs, such as the page history, indicates authorship.
- Never post, upload, or link to material that infringes intellectual property rights, as stipulated by Fandom's Terms of Use. Quotations from copyrighted works may be included in articles in accordance with the fair use principle.
- Never use generative artificial intelligence tools for your contributions.
- Never plagiarise content from one page to another.
- When you merge or split an article, or otherwise move text from one page to another within Wookieepedia, you should indicate the source page in your edit summaries at the destination page with a corresponding link (e.g. "merged from 85th"). It is good practice to do likewise at the source page as well (e.g. "merged to 85th Fighter Wing")
- To avoid confusion, it is good practice to do the above even when you are re-using text created by yourself.
- Abide by Wookieepedia's file policy when uploading a file, at minimum accurately specifying on the file page the relevant source, authors or copyright holders, and licensing information via the {{Information}} template.
Wookieepedia social media content

Since November 3, 2024, original content created by Social Media Team members for Wookieepedia's social media platforms—in any format—is the intellectual property of Wookieepedia. Wookieepedia retains the ownership and copyright of said content following a Social Media Team member's departure from their position, meaning it may remain visible on the site's accounts at the discretion of the remaining Social Media Team members. Exceptions include content posted on Wookieepedia's social media accounts that are owned by other copyright holders—such as derivatives or direct copies of official images or fan-made images—which may be taken down at the copyright holder's request.
