Introduction[edit source]

Insignia, logos and symbols were used throughout the galaxy as an affirmation of allegiance to an organization, a token of personal power or a sign of status.

Empire[edit source]

A symbol of a circle connected by eight even spokes was used by the Galactic Republic and subsequently formed the basis of the Imperial crest. In Star Wars Legends, it has its roots in the Bendu symbol. In later years, the Imperial symbol was incorporated into the insignia of other organizations such as House Benelex and Ante-Endor Association, in order to show allegiance to the Empire.

Alliance Starbird[edit source]

The Rebel Alliance starbird was used by the Rebel Alliance, and was most often observed on Rebel pilot helmets. It appears to have its roots in the starbird graffiti designed by Sabine Wren, one of the first members of the rebellion. Furthermore, the symbol also bears some resemblance to the emblem of the Jedi Order. It has since been adopted by the New Republic and the Resistance.

In Legends, the first possible appearance of this symbol was on the ruins of Rhen Var which were thought to predate the Old Sith Wars. The Rebel Alliance chose this insignia to honor Galen Marek, Darth Vader's redeemed apprentice. The Alliance Starbird has also been incorporated into organizations and units linked to the Rebellion such as the Rogue Squadron crest, the Insignia of the New Republic and the Novahawk.

Sith[edit source]

Throughout the history of the Sith its members, rulers and acolytes have adorned themselves and their vessels with symbols. In the Legends Old Republic era, Sith would tattoo symbols on their foreheads, while later the tradition appeared to be to cover their entire bodies with elaborate tattoos.

Pirates[edit source]

The most identifiable symbol of the pirate was the Blazing Claw. Over time the symbol was adapted by different individuals but the basic identity of the symbol remained—a claw or claws surrounded by flames. Other pirate organizations used images of a skull such as the Eyttyrmin Batiiv and Bloody Bones.

Corporate[edit source]

Companies used a diverse array of symbols to represent their organization and products. Variations of the parent symbols were often used for subsidiaries, as with Santhe Corporation and its holdings.
