- "... and as the wrix bit off their heads and nibbled their toes, Kribben and Zibben knew why there was where no one goes ..."
- ―Corellian fable
The wrix was a mountain-dwelling large carnivorous creature. It was mentioned in a popular, yet unsettling, Corellian fable about two reckless boys who disobeyed their parents.[2] Wrixes were also ideally suited for pit-fight competitions.
Biology and appearance[]
Wrixes were predators that lived in the mountains and preyed on small and large animals. They were covered in short fur, possessed a long tail, had sharp claws in their forelimbs and had hooves in their hindlimbs.[2]
Sub-species[]
The most common sub-species was the gray wrix. The Less common but larger Corellian wrix was also dark gray, was larger, had larger ears and was more aggressive than other breeds. The Tanthior wrix was also larger than the gray wrix at 3.5 metres long and had evolved longer legs to be faster in pursuing herd animals.[2]
Behavior[]
A wrix
Wrixes preferred to prey on small animals in the wild, but their aggressive hunting patterns often led them to the fringes of settlements, where they would eat family pets or other domesticated animals such as banthas. Because of this, settlers made eliminating wrixes from inhabited areas a top priority. Wrixes were very territorial and drove other animals from their hunting grounds. If needed, they would hunt in packs to take down larger animals.[2]
Wrixes spread to many inhabited worlds, on some they were known to develop a taste for humans. While they generally hunted at any time of the day or night, when going after humans they preferred to attack at night. This led some to speculate that they might be more intelligent than first believed.[2]
History[]
The wrix had been portrayed in folklore as a monster for thousands of years, especially on Corellia. While xenobiologists tried to promote the notion that the wrix acts from instinct and is neither "good" nor "evil," their efforts were unable to counteract thousands of years of folklore about the creature.[2]
