Publisher's summary[]
The Bothan tourists that Wedge and crew have come to save are neither Bothans nor tourists—they're a consortium of spies assigned to follow the Emperor. Wedge is glad to know this now, but he'd have been happier to have discovered this fact before his crew were trapped on this back-water planet called Malrev IV. Now Rogue Squadron is in the middle of a firing ground, between a twisted, self-styled "Lord of the Sith" who calls Malrev 4 his home and the leader of the spies, Girov, who desires the planet, its great temple, and all its power for his own!
Plot summary[]
On a scouting mission, Wedge and the Rogues discuss Girov and his intentions. Wes reveals his suspicions to Wedge, and Wedge replies by telling Wes what he had learned from Cartariun while in the temple, revealing the bizarre feelings of the Rogues come from the temple's Sith magic.
Whilst in a bacta tank alongside Hobbie, Herian realises she, too, can hear the music. She is able to communicate with Dllr, who is being healed by Cartariun's magic. While Cartariun encourages Dllr to embrace the music, Herian argues that he should reject the music instead and listen to its evil undertones. But as Dllr rejects the music, Cartariun decides the Sullustan is now useless and orders his irrukiine to attack Dllr and sets his TIEs and their irrukiine pilots on the remaining members of Rogue Squadron.
On their scouting mission, the Rogues encounter the irrukiine in their TIEs. Meanwhile, on the ground beside the Starfaring, the rest of Rogue Squadron prepares for a ground assault, believing the irrukiine attack to be a diversion. Girov sets out into the forest in search of the temple.
In the temple, Dllr uses the Sith magic against Cartariun, breaking his concentration.
Without Cartariun controlling them, the irrukiine-piloted TIEs are easily dispatched by Rogue Squadron, and the pilots return to camp.
Meanwhile, Girov arrives at the temple as Dllr attacks Cartariun. The Bothan shoots Dllr in the back.
