"That's right. Wrecker here cut off the queen's stinger while she was still alive. That's why all those Yalbec males tried to eat us."
"Uh, technically they were trying to mate with us."
―Hunter and Tech recount Clone Force 99's encounter with the Yalbecs[1]

Yalbec were an insectoid species found on Yalbec Prime. During the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, several Yalbec were involved in an Insurrection on Yalbec Prime, during which they came into conflict with the Republic's elite Clone Force 99.

Biology and appearance[]

"And for your information, the stinger of a Yalbec queen is a delicacy on some planets."
―Tech informs his fellow clones of trivia on a Yalbec queen's stinger[1]

Yalbec biology included at least two sexes, male and female. Some females were classified as queens and possessed stingers. Male members of the species could only be killed with bladed weapons and in some cases would attempt to mate with nearby organisms if a queen's stinger was cut off. The stingers of Yalbec queens were considered delicacies on several worlds.[1]

History[]

"Ever fought a male Yalbec?"
"Um, no, can't say that I have."
"You're lucky. Only way to kill 'em is with one of these."
―Wrecker tells Jesse that Yalbec males can only be killed with a blade[1]
Wrecker Anaxes

Wrecker, a clone commando who cut off a Yalbec queen's stinger

During the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, an insurrection occurred on Yalbec Prime, prompting the Republic to send an elite group of clone troopers known as Clone Force 99 to deal with it. The clones came into conflict with a group of Yalbec while trying to put down the insurrection, and the clone known as Wrecker chopped off the stinger of a Yalbec queen while she was still alive. This triggered several Yalbec males to try and mate with the clones, which the clone Hunter mistook for an attempt to eat them. Fighting the Yalbec delayed the clones in traveling to the planet Anaxes for their next mission. Once they reached the world, Hunter and Wrecker recounted their fight against the Yalbec to the clones CC-2224, CT-5597, CT-6116 and CT-7567, and during the story another Force 99 clone known as Tech corrected Hunter saying that the male Yalbecs were attempting to mate with them instead of trying to eat them.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Yalbec were first mentioned in "The Bad Batch," an episode of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series. The episode was written to be the premiere of the show's seventh season, but The Clone Wars was cancelled before it was made and released. The unfinished story reels of the episodes were then shown at Celebration Anaheim in 2015, before being released on StarWars.com later that year as part of The Clone Wars Legacy. A finalized version of the episode did debut as part of the show's eventual seventh and final season in 2020.[1]
