- "Yellow Squadron? Yellow Squadron, report!"
- ―Rebels, at Vrogas Vas
Yellow Squadron, also referred to as Yellow Group, was a Rebel Alliance starfighter squadron stationed over the planet Vrogas Vas during the Galactic Civil War.
History[]
Jake Farrell[]
After quitting as a flight instructor of the Galactic Empire, the human Jake Farrell retired to Derango 4 but joined the Rebellion shortly afterward, serving its Yellow Squadron under the callsign "Yellow Seven" with a modified R-22 Spearhead starfighter. By the time of the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, Farrell served in the rebel Gold Squadron flying an RZ-1 A-wing interceptor.[6]
Battle of Vrogas Vas[]
- "Is anyone left from Yellow? I can't see…"
"This…This can't be happening. How is he doing this? It's just one man!" - ―Rebels shocked after Vader destroyed Yellow Squadron
In 0 ABY,[4] Yellow Squadron, along with Blue Squadron and Red Squadron, were drilling over Vrogas Vas, when an Imperial scout ship dropped out of hyperspace right in front of them. With three squadrons of X-wings versus one TIE, the odds seemed to be in the Rebel Alliance's favor. Drills now cancelled, the pilots of Blue Squadron took the lead and started their attack on the lonely ship, commencing the Battle of Vrogas Vas. Not realizing that it was Darth Vader in a TIE Advanced x1 with deflector shields and torpedoes, the entire squadron was destroyed without so much as a scratch to Vader's own ship. Shocked at the loss of Blue Squadron, Yellow Squadron decided to coordinate fire using torpedoes. All locked and fired, the torpedoes veered off course, then Vader destroyed Yellow Squadron. Luke Skywalker, who was flying as Red Five with the only remaining pilots of Red Squadron, sensed it was Vader. Not convinced another coordinated attack would work, flew his own X-wing into Vader's TIE and both crashed onto the planet below. Both pilots survived the crash and the battle continued on the planet below, with further losses to Gray Squadron,[1] Amber Wing,[7] and Cyan Squadron.[8]
Battle of Endor[]
- "…Lost Gemma, lost Snar, lost Reet, half of Yellow Group…"
- ―A Rebel pilot lists casualties following the Battle of Endor
In 4 ABY,[9] Yellow Group participated in the Battle of Endor.[3] When Red Group and Gold Group made the run for Death Star II's reactor, Captain Ribeiro and her second-in-command Lieutenant Malena, formed a protective screen over the entrance of the superstructure to prevent further TIEs from pursuing those inside.[2] Near the end of the battle, Yellow Group, alongside Green Group, received orders from Home One to intercept Imperial ships evacuating the second Death Star. Yellow Group lost half of their pilots in the battle.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
The 2017 activity book Star Wars: A-wing Deluxe Book and 3D Wood Model states that Jake Farrell joined "the rebel group Yellow Seven,"[10] but the 2022 booklet "Pilots of the Rebel Alliance" confirms that Farrell actually joined Yellow Squadron under the callsign "Yellow Seven."[6]
