- "And Yoshi came down with Wookiee flu right after we had our first…encounter. Blech, I can't be around that level of snot and vomit. It's Wookiee-level. Don't try to picture it, it's too gross."
- ―Chelli Lona Aphra, to Sana Starros
Yoshi was an individual who attended the University of Bar'leth on the Core Worlds planet Bar'leth during the Imperial Era. The human female Chelli Lona Aphra, an aspiring archaeologist, attended at the same time as Yoshi. The two beings were briefly lovers, but shortly after their first encounter, Yoshi became very sick with Wookiee flu. Aphra found its symptoms so disgusting that she did not continue the relationship.
Sana Starros, another human female pursuing archaeology at the university, became Aphra's lover afterward and knew that she had recently been involved with Yoshi and other beings. When Starros asked who else besides herself Aphra was seeing, Aphra initially joked that she could not keep track and shared why things ended with Yoshi, then confessed that she was no longer involved with anyone besides Starros.
Behind the scenes
Yoshi was mentioned within flashback sequences in the 2020 audiobook Doctor Aphra: An Audiobook Original, written by Sarah Kuhn. Although Aphra was described as a lesbian by her creator, Kieron Gillen, and Sana Starros stated in-universe that "guys and Aphra don't exactly mix" in Gillen's Star Wars 61, Yoshi's gender was not specified in Kuhn's story.
