Young Jedi Knights: Crisis at Crystal Reef is a Star Wars Legends young-adult novel written by Kevin J. Anderson and Rebecca Moesta. It is the fourteenth and final book in the Star Wars: Young Jedi Knights series, and it was first published by Berkley Boulevard in August 1998. It also includes a sixteen-page preview of Lucasfilm's Alien Chronicles: The Crimson Claw. The novel was reprinted in Young Jedi Knights: Under Black Sun (1999).

Publisher's summary[]

Anja Gallandro planned to destroy the Solo family. But now she fights an intense inner battle—against her growing spice addiction, and her growing friendship with Jacen and Jaina. She no longer knows where her loyalties lie. In desperation for spice, she steals a ship and flees the Jedi academy.

The young Jedi Knights give chase, following her from the spice mines of Kessel to the dangerous paradise of Crystal Reef. But Anja has been a pawn all along in a game that is much bigger than all of them. And they just landed in the middle of it…

Plot summary[]

Racked by spice withdraw, Anja steals Zekk's ship. Upon discovering that Czethros was behind the long, terrible war on Anobis, she vows to strike back against her former master. Anja voyages to Mon Calamari to scuttle Czethros' spice-smuggling operation there. Jacen and his friends, concerned over Anja's behavior, find her on Mon Calamari with the help of Jedi Knight and Mon Calamari ambassador Cilghal. Cilghal uses her Force healing abilities to clear Anja of her addiction. Meanwhile, Jaina and Lowbacca corner Czethros in the spice mines of Kessel. Rather than be captured, Czethros throws himself into a vat of carbonite, where he is flash-frozen. Returning to Yavin 4, the young Jedi are honored in a graduation ceremony that seems them promoted to the rank of Jedi Knights.

Continuity[]

Because details of the padawanMaster apprenticeship were not known to Star Wars book authors at this time, the graduation of the students to Jedi Knights does not signify the end of their training. Although the students are described as "fully trained Jedi Knights" at this point in the timeline, Jacen, Jaina, and Anakin begin the New Jedi Order series apprenticed to other Masters.[1]
