The Yuzzums were a species of sentient bipeds with a big mouth. They were native to the forest moon of Endor. A Yuzzum named Joh Yowza occasionally sang with the Max Rebo Band.
Biology and appearance
Yuzzums were fur-covered bipeds whose rotund bodies were supported by long, thin legs, adapted for life on Endor's grasslands.[3] They also had two skinny arms ending in four-fingered hands, two forward-facing eyes located at the top of their skull, and antenna-like ears. The mouth of a Yuzzum was wide and filled with blunted teeth.[1]
Society and culture
The Yuzzums were a sentient species, capable of thinking intelligently; they had propers names and were capable of talking.[1] They were described as "dreamy wanderers."[3] Living on the plains, Yuzzum loved hunting rodents called ruggers for food and often rode on tamed rakazzak beasts to help them on the hunt.[4]
Yuzzums in the galaxy
By the time of the Galactic Civil War, a Yuzzum named Joh Yowza had made a career as a professional singer, and he occasionally sang with the Max Rebo Band.[2] Shortly before the Battle of Endor, Wam Lufba was present in the palace of Jabba the Hutt on Tatooine, working as an exterminator.[1][3]
Behind the scenes
The Yuzzums were created for the 1983 movie Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, the last installment in the original trilogy of Star Wars. Originally, they were meant to be featured in the movie as a companion species to the Ewoks on Endor. However, they proved too costly to produce in quantity. As a consequence, only one Yuzzum puppet was built, and it found its way into the background of Jabba the Hutt's palace. When an extended musical number was added in the Special Edition of Return of the Jedi in 1997, the Yuzzum design was revisited through a computer-generated creation.[2]
