"The Zarracines refused to accommodate Coruscant's envoys and on the verge of capture the entire ruling council killed themselves to avoid conversion and spite their conquerors. In retaliation, Commodore Daymont "Veracity" Praji bombed Zarracina III into radioactive winter."
―Dr. Gabrel Treon, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Praji: A Cartel of Genes[src]

Zarracina III was a planet located in the Expansion Region's Zarracina sector. It was the homeworld of the Zarracine species. When a stable hyperspace jump point was discovered in the Zarracina system in 11,660 BBY, the Pius Dea–controlled Galactic Republic attempted to acquire Zarracina III.

However, the Zarracines rejected Republic envoys, and their entire ruling council committed suicide when the Republic attempted to conquer the planet. In response, Zarracina III was subjected to an orbital bombardment that devastated the planet and forced the few surviving Zarracines to adopt a nomadic existence.

Description[]

Zarracina III was a planet that occupied the third orbital position in the Zarracina system,[3] a part of the Zarracina sector[1] in the Trailing Sectors portion of[2] the Expansion Region.[1]

History[]

"But long before the end, in 11,660 BBY, a stable hyperspace jump point was discovered in the Zarracina system, and acquiring its inhabited third planet became a priority for the Republic."
―Dr. Gabrel Treon, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Praji: A Cartel of Genes[src]

The Zarracina system became a target of the Twelfth Pius Dea Crusade.

In 11,660 BBY, a stable hyperspace jump point was discovered in the Zarracina system. Due to the discovery's strategic nature, acquiring the inhabited Zarracina III became a priority for the Galactic Republic, which was under the control of the speciesist Pius Dea cult at the time. When the Zarracines, the native species of Zarracina III, rejected envoys from[3] the Republic's capital world Coruscant, the Republic initiated a crusade against the natives of the Zarracina system.[5] On the verge of capture by the Republic, the entire ruling council of Zarracina III committed suicide in order to avoid conversion to the Pius Dea religion and to spite the would-be Republic conquerors.[3]

In response, Republic Commodore Daymont Praji ordered the orbital bombardment of Zarracina III, which sent the planet into a state of radioactive winter. The bombardment also caused the near-extinction of the Zarracines, with the few remaining aliens adopting a nomadic existence and nurturing hatred for the Republic—which subsequently annexed the Zarracina system—and the Praji family that lasted for more than ten thousand years. In 104 ABY, Doctor Gabrel Treon mentioned the bombardment of Zarracina III in the article Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Praji: A Cartel of Genes, published in the Byblos Journal of Historical Science.[3]

Inhabitants[]

"The Republic annexed the system and the few surviving Zarracines became a nomadic species."
―Dr. Gabrel Treon, Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Praji: A Cartel of Genes[src]

Zarracina III was the homeworld of the sentient Zarracine species and was governed by a ruling council. Following the devastation of their planet, the remaining Zarracines became a nomadic species.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

Zarracina III was mentioned in "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Praji," an article authored by Nathan O'Keefe and published as part of the StarWars.com Hyperspace feature on February 5, 2009.[3] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Zarracina system, and therefore Zarracina III, in grid square O-14.[4]
