"In retaliation, Commodore Daymont 'Veracity' Praji bombed Zarracina III into radioactive winter. The Republic annexed the system and the few surviving Zarracines became a nomadic species."
―Dr. Gabrel Treon, "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Praji: A Cartel of Genes"[1]

A sentient species, the Zarracines hailed from the planet Zarracina III. In 11,660 BBY, the Pius Dea–controlled Galactic Republic attempted to gain control of the planet, with the Zarracines resisting the efforts. Ultimately, Republic Commodore Daymont Praji ordered the orbital bombardment of the world that rendered the species nearly extinct. The surviving Zarracines became nomads in space and harbored a millennia-long hatred for the Republic and House Praji. Many Zarracines later joined the Confederacy of Independent Systems, and, during the Clone Wars, five Zarracine terrorists unsuccessfuly attempted to board the repulsorlimo of First Minister Tannon Praji of the Coruscant Ministry of Ingress.

Society and culture[]

"Harboring much hatred for the destroyers of their world, they kept to themselves, although many joined the Confederacy of Independent Systems and later Nolaa Tarkona's Diversity Alliance."
―Dr. Gabrel Treon, "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Praji: A Cartel of Genes"[1]

The Zarracines were a sentient species from the planet Zarracina III[1] in the Expansion Region's Zarracina sector.[2] They were originally governed by a ruling council. After the devastation of their homeworld by the forces of Galactic Republic Commodore Daymont Praji, the Zarracines became a relatively isolationist nomadic species. Members of the species, however, maintained a hatred for both the Republic and House Praji for more than ten millennia.[1]

History[]

"But long before the end, in 11,660 BBY, a stable hyperspace jump point was discovered in the Zarracina system, and acquiring its inhabited third planet became a priority for the Republic. The Zarracines refused to accommodate Coruscant's envoys and on the verge of capture the entire ruling council killed themselves to avoid conversion and spite their conquerors."
―Dr. Gabrel Treon, "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Praji: A Cartel of Genes"[1]
Twelfth Pius Dea Crusade

The Galactic Republic targeted the Zarracines in a crusade.

In 11,660 BBY, a stable hyperspace jump point was discovered in the Zarracina system. Due to the discovery's strategic nature, acquiring Zarracina III became a priority for the Galactic Republic, which at the time was under the control of the Humanocentrist Pius Dea cult. The Zarracines, however, rejected envoys from[1] the Republic's capital world Coruscant. The Republic then initiated a crusade targeting both that species and the Teirasans of the Mid Rim's Teirasa system.[3]

On the verge of capture by the Republic, Zarracina III's entire ruling council died by suicide in order to avoid conversion to the Pius Dea religion and to spite the would-be Republic conquerors. In response, Republic Commodore Praji ordered the orbital bombardment of the planet, which sent it into a state of radioactive winter. That act caused the near-extinction of the Zarracines.[1]

Zarracines in the galaxy[]

"[Ottegru Grey] proved his worth before the first month was out: foiling CIS-backed Zarracine terrorists who tried to board the Minister's repulsorlimo in a harrowing chase and aerial fisticuffs."
―Dr. Gabrel Treon, "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Praji: A Cartel of Genes"[1]
TannonPraji

Zarracine terrorists once attempted to board the repulsorlimo of Tannon Praji.

The Republic subsequently annexed the Zarracina system while what few Zarracines survived adopted nomadic existence in space. Many members of the species later joined the Confederacy of Independent Systems,[1] which was formed in 24 BBY[3] and fought against the Republic in the Clone Wars of 22 BBY19 BBY.[4]

At one point during that conflict, five Confederacy-backed Zarracine terrorists chased the repulsorlimo of First Minister Tannon Praji of the Coruscant Ministry of Ingress in an attempt to board it. As a result of the ensuing aerial fistfight between the terrorists and Praji's bodyguard Ottegru Grey, three of the attackers fell to their deaths, while the other two were delivered by Grey into Republic custody.[1]

Numerous Zarracines also joined the Diversity Alliance,[1] an anti-Human extremist movement active by 24 ABY.[4] In 104 ABY, Doctor Gabrel Treon mentioned the history of the Zarracines in the article "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Praji: A Cartel of Genes," published in the Byblos Journal of Historical Science.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Zarracines were first mentioned in "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Praji," an article authored by Nathan O'Keefe and published as part of the StarWars.com Hyperspace feature on February 5, 2009.[1]
