Zolan was a planet that was the homeworld of the Zolander species and its Clawdite offshoot.
History[]
A hundred generations ago before the Yuuzhan Vong War, a meteorite unleashed a skin contagion on the native Zolanders, making them vulnerable to solar radiation. Sick Zolanders were forced to relocate to the Sultur continent. Zolander scientists experimented gene therapy in order to activate natural protection against radiation. The results was positive but created a new species, Clawdites, which were shape-shifting.[2] However, Clawdites were marginalized by the Zolanders and tensions between the two communities increased during the fall of the Old Republic.[2]
Zolan was also notable as being the planet where the ancient religious order of Mabari warriors was founded. The Zolanders only allowed small numbers of Clawdites to join the order.[6]
By the time of the Clone Wars, Zolan was part of the Galactic Republic.[5] The Clawdites sought the help of the Confederacy of Independent Systems and contacted Count Dooku with the hope the Confederacy would liberate them from Zolander oppression.[2]
After the fall of the Republic and the rise of the Galactic Empire, the planet was blockaded by Imperial forces under the order of Imperial Intelligence in order to prevent any changeling person in aiding Rebels.[2]
After the Battle of Endor, tensions between Zolanders and Clawdites rose again and the New Republic tried to intercede to establish a peace between the two species. However, the assassination of a New Republic diplomat resulted eventually in a full-scale war. The Clawdites later overthrew the Zolander dominance of the planet and came to control 75% of the planet.[2] The war ended circa 25 ABY and the Clawdites made overtures to the New Republic when the Yuuzhan Vong War began. Zolan soon joined the New Republic and shapeshifters Clawdites joined forces with the Republic.[6] About 100 shapeshifters Clawdites formed Guile Company, serving as infiltrators during the war.[2] Guile Company suffered heavy casualties but the organization remained until the end of the conflict. Clawdites eventually became essential to the Galactic Alliance Intelligence.[6]
